"Fröding is a genius poet and a master of the art of verse. He is unfailingly rhythmic and rhymes in a convincingly obvious way. Setting Fröding to music is therefore in a way easy. It is easy to make songs out of his poetry, which has also been done to a large extent, but to set a complex modernist music to Fröding's lyrics almost feels like an abuse. The ingenious simplicity of poetry should be accompanied by simple music.
I have therefore chosen to approach the song and folk music and wrote mostly strophic and sometimes through-composed simple music for the first three poems, but on the other hand in the last one I have reinforced the serious, well-known text with somewhat more complex tonality because I could never write a as beautiful driving set as David Wikander. Better then to distance yourself as far as possible from Wikander's well-established music. But I still couldn't resist including a few short Wikand quotes, which could possibly amuse, or maybe annoy, the experienced audience or the choristers." - Hans Lundgren
