Looduspildid (Nature Pictures) consists of four cycles depicting varying atmospheres of different seasons: 1. Kevadkillud (Spring Sketches), 2. Suvemotiivid (Summer Motifs), 3. Sügismastikud (Autumn Landscapes) and Talvemustrid (Winter Patterns). Tormis wrote the songs in 1964-69 to texts by contemporary poets, and Talvemustrid uses texts by Andres Ehin. Virmalised (Northern Lights), song number 4 is often sung by itself, without the other three songs of the cycle from which it comes. The texts are given in Estonian and English singing translations by Ritva Poom are also provided.
