Web comment by the composer: "In the early 1990s, I saw the film Dreams by Akira Kurosawa in a Malmö cinema. It was an extremely powerful experience for me. I watched the film again that evening and then bought it in a video store. The film contains a number of concentrated dream scenes that follow each other and which create imaginative spaces with clear contrasts.Image and color play as well as tempo and drama form a complex whole, full of musical associations. When, a few years later, I received an orchestra commission from the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, I did not hesitate to use this cinematic experience as an inspiring starting point for form as well as dramatic progression. My ambition was never to write film music, but rather to reflect and interpret in my personal way what I experienced when I saw the film. This was largely made possible by the fact that I had a full symphony orchestra with percussion, celesta and two harps available to my imagination and instrumentation."
