Evening in the interior is part of a collection of pieces with texts from different contexts and times from Harry Martinson's writing. The first two, this song and Aniara song 13 , were commissioned by the Rilke Ensemble in 2018. These two poems allude to each other. Aniara, a metaphor for humanity's fate in an endlessly desolate universe – 'our lost is even deeper than we first thought'. Evening in the hinterland , a quiet contemplation by a lake - 'Here there is a starkness that no one notices'. The congeniality of these two extremes forms a congruence that opens up new reflections on their content.
