Edith Södergran's Nocturne ("Silvery moonlight evening...") from 1916 is simultaneously serious and light, mysterious and bright. Birgitta Flick builds her interpretation for three-part treble choir around a hummed melody that creates the harmony with its movement. The contrast between the soft å sound of the waves and the clear consonants in words like "silver light" together with small glissando movements where the piece seems to stop gives a dreamy piece with character, structure and simplicity.
For SSA a cappella. Swedish and English version (translation Anna Högberg).
Nocturne is part of the series #svenskkörmusik 2022, in collaboration with the Association of Swedish Composers. Read more and watch the film about Nocturne and Birgitta Flick!
