Henry Purcell's famous song was originally written for the tragedy Oedipus (1678). The general bass movement was arranged by Gunnar Eriksson for mixed choir a cappella. This movement has since been lightly adapted by Maria Gamborg Helbekkmo for her ensemble, the Norwegian women's choir Voci Nobili.
