Five serious poems were written in March 2002, except the first, "Autumn's last flower", which was added in October 2000.
The compositions are dedicated to Bo Johansson (1943–2016), Adolf Fredrik's Girls' Choir and my daughter Elisabeth, who sang 1st soprano in the choir in 2000–2004. Two of the pieces were first performed, "Lyckans minut" by Bo Johansson and AFF at a concert together with Danska Radions Pigekor at Musikaliska, Nybrokajen 11, on May 16, 2004, and "You are far away" by Mikael Wedar and a choir from Kungsholms Gymnasium at a concert at Berwaldhallen on 18 October 2005.
Edith Södergran's poem "Hösten's sista blomma", the music of which was written first, touched me strongly, and later I wanted to continue making a suite of five pieces. One of the impulses for the poem selection was the initiative from SL in Stockholm's subway, "Poesi på väg", and there I found Urban Andersson's poem "Jag hugger in min kärlek" from the poem collection Fågelns öga, as well as "You are far away" by Hanna Håkansson. So I supplemented with two more beloved classics: "Lykkan's minute" by Erik Lindorm and "Någon gån ska vi dö" by Barbro Lindgren.
I have tried to design a uniform tonal language for the suite, common material appears in all the movements. Great importance was given to a 4-tone motif (efg-guess), modally marked, which appears in the first piece and then reappears in the other movements, perhaps most clearly in the last one, "Someday we will die".
A great source of inspiration was AFF's incomparably clear and clean-tuned choir sound, and Bo Johansson's dedicated musicianship. - Nils Larsson
