"A few years ago, the Church of Sweden carried out a large advertising campaign in the Stockholm subway. On my way home from work, I saw one of the signs above the window of the subway car. Among advertising signs for invoicing services, media companies, Christmas tables and other things, my eyes were fixed on the sign of the Church of Sweden. In the picture there was only a burning candle and next to it the text from the Gospel of John 1:5. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There and then the idea for this work was born. There in the subway car, it struck me how powerful this simple message of light and hope becomes in an often cold and gray world. The piece is intended as a kind of mantra or as a "taizé song". Because every time you sing or hear the words, maybe it becomes more real and true. In the performance of the music there are a few different options. By SATB is meant a standard mixed four-part choir. The SSA part can either be performed by soloists or by a smaller group. In any case, you should stand in such a way that it is both visually and acoustically clear that there are two groups singing." Martin Åsander
