Beyond Farewell was commissioned and premiered by Swedish guitarist Celia Linde. However some time later Tommie Haglund began a re-shaping of the work including not only some minor alterations but also the introduction of a short corale-like section, plus a new ending where a more impressionistic atmosphere emerges. This resulted in the piece becoming more extended, thereby creating a more expansive "canvas" allowing the many and varied ideas to emerge with enhanced transparency. The title Beyond Farewell perhaps has something of an etherial quality – a time for contemplation, sadness and regret-time to consider the comments that where made in haste, or conversely kind words which should have been said. At the point of death, for that person the world has come to an end, there is no magic portal through which they may return, but then we don't know what lies beyond. It is this new version which is presented here, a work of many contrasts, in atmosphere and emotion, which provides an important addition to the repertoire of the guitar.
