The 14 Improvisations were composed between 1982 and 1992 for the purpose of providing organists short pieces in a moderately modern idiom. None of these pieces are based on either hymns or Gregorian chant. With the 14 Improvisations the organist can demonstrate the different registrations of an organ and the possibilities for combining these registers. They can be performed on a relatively small instrument with 2 manuals and a (pull-down) pedal.
