In Larsson's 12 Concertini (solo concertos for various instruments) the accompanying string orchestra movements are written to be performed by amateur orchestras, while the solo parts place higher demands on the skill of the instrumentalists. The idea was born when, in the late 1940s, Larsson worked as an inspector for SOR (the National Confederation of Swedish Orchestra Associations) and got an insight into what amateurs could do and what repertoire they needed. The concertinas are often performed, both with a string orchestra and with piano accompaniment.
