Jazz piano offers theories, practical examples and suggestions for exercises for those who want to develop their skills in:
- to play the piano in a jazz group
- to read advanced chord analysis in, for example, The Real Book and, based on the analysis, play a piano arrangement or a comp
- to understand jazz harmony at the piano, to be able to practice improvisation or make transcriptions.

The text mainly deals with chord playing and chord notation, while the sections on improvisation and accompaniment are less detailed. Skills in rhythmic interaction and improvisation are best developed as a member of an ensemble; chord playing skills, on the other hand, can be excellently practiced from a book like this.
The book is aimed at readers who have already mastered basic chord playing and need a method to make their playing more advanced and more jazzy.

Daniel Nolgård is a jazz pianist and pedagogue at Ingesund Academy of Music.

"Daniel Nolgård's Jazzpiano fulfills an important function, as there is scant Swedish literature on the subject. The book is highly recommended..." (Ronny Johansson, university lecturer in piano, Musikläraren 1/05)
