"Rock in Swedish" is about the history of Swedish rock music, from Little Gerhard to Laleh, from the mid-1950s to 2013. The portrayal is based on the idea that Swedish rock music is created in a meeting between music that already exists in Sweden and stylistic impulses that come from outside. The title should be understood to mean that Swedish rock music has its own accent and often does not sound like English or American music - whether it is sung in Swedish or English. In addition to the history, there are also analyzes of a selection of Swedish artists, such as Eldkvarn, Laleh, Kent, Säkert!, Peps and Timbuktu, and styles such as dance bands, folk rock, blues, rural rock and hip-hop. One chapter deals with lyrics: why do you sing in Swedish or English and what are the consequences of the choice of language? The book not only addresses music and lyrics, but also cultural changes in terms of mindsets, lifestyles, politics, fashion, media and music journalism. "Rock in Swedish" is aimed both at students at universities and colleges and a broad public interested in music. The book is a heavily edited version of Lars Lilliestam's earlier book "Svensk rock".
