Web comment by the composer: "The violin concerto is my fifth solo concerto. Each concerto is characterized by the collaboration with the soloist I wrote for, but also by the instrument itself and my previous solo concerts. In the violin concerto in particular, I have made an extra effort to emphasize the solo part in my instrumentation in selected parts. In other parts the solo violin plays together with the orchestra. This focus has of course to do with an effort not to drown out the slightly weak violin, but it is also an expression of a desire to instrument more transparently than I have done in previous orchestral works highlight the sonorously intimate expressions and shadings of the work. The form of the work is rather the result of an intuitive and improvisational work, rather than a structured and prearranged template. It gives the work an unpredictability that I like very much there is room for solo cadenzas and distinctly soloistic parts that expose the violin's entire register both in terms of range and expression. It is a great challenge to write a violin concerto, not least because in the history of music there are already so many masterpieces in the genre. This fact has rather spurred me to find the best for the instrument and for my soloist Jan Stigmer, who supported my work in every way throughout the process, from the very first note!"
