Matthew Peterson receives the Little Christ Johnson Prize

Matthew Peterson is awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Lilla Christ Johnson Prize for the Högalidsmässan for mixed choir, brass quartet, percussion, organ and string orchestra, to texts by Gunilla Lindén.

The Högalid Mass was written for the 100th anniversary of Högalid Church and premiered at the church's reopening on June 10, 2023.

The jury's justification reads:
"A large sacred work that, both in its accessibility and scope, sends an inspiring message to many of the country's church choirs. With a rhythmically varied and brilliant musical language, Matthew Peterson breathes new life into the deeply moving message of the Mass."

The Högalid Mass will be performed again on May 5, 2025 in Falu Kristine Church.
