Alvin Vikman is a pianist and composer, born in 2001 and based in Stockholm. With his sense of timbre and voicing and his passion for Japanese literature and culture, he has created his own niche in the Swedish choral scene. He collaborates with ensembles such as the Swedish Radio Choir, Erik Westberg's Vocal Ensemble and Storkyrkan's Chamber Choir.
With piano as his first instrument, Alvin studied composition with Matthew Peterson in high school and then continued his studies with Jan Sandström and Fredrik Högberg at the Piteå Academy of Music. His composing is influenced by Ravel, Stravinsky and music for film and video games.
The Japanese Seasons, a suite for mixed choir from 2023 with settings of Japanese poems, was Alvin Vikman's breakthrough as a choral composer. The suite was commissioned by Erik Westberg's Vocal Ensemble with lyrics in Japanese and is performed by both professional and amateur choirs in Sweden and Europe.
During the Baltic Sea Festival 2025, the Radio Choir will premiere VikmansThe North Sea, also a setting of Japanese poems, sung in Japanese.
Alvin Vikman's choral music is published by Gehrmans Musikförlag.
