Tina Andersson's choral music explores the expressive potential of the human voice, using lyrical melodies and varying sound structures to evoke strong images. She composes colorful, text-focused choral works with the transcendent and atmospheric qualities of contemporary music.
Tina Andersson has received commissions from ensembles such as Hymnia Chamber Choir in Copenhagen, Vocal Art Ensemble of Sweden and Camerata Nordica. She was part of the EU project “Emerging Classical Talents in the EU”, in which her music was performed in Sweden and on a European tour with concerts in, among others, Estonia, Wales and Italy.
In 2015, Hymnia Chamber Choir in Copenhagen commissioned a work for their concert project “In honor of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci”. The commission resulted in a piece for double choir: “The Mural Painting in Santa Maria Delle Grazie, Milan (The Last Supper as seen by Rilke in Milan 1904)”, which was premiered in Copenhagen in 2016. The concert included commissions from other composers such as Sven-David Sandström, Ib Nørholm, Jaako Mäntyjärvi and Marianne Reidarsdatter Eriksen.
In 2024, Tina Andersson's short opera "End of Love Songs" premiered, an introverted but dramatic portrayal of the life of poet Sara Teasdale, with a libretto based on one of her poems. The opera is written for mezzo-soprano, actors and string quartet and plays with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in an everyday context.
Tina Andersson's music has been performed and recorded by, among others, Eric Whitacre Singers, Radiokören, Sofia Vokalensemble, VoNo, Hymnia Chamber Choir, Hedvig Eleonora Chamber Choir, Petri Sångare, Josquin des Prés Vocal Ensemble, London Oriana Choir, Collegium Vocale Hannover, Camerata Nordica, soprano Karin Dahlberg, pianist Bernt Wilhelmsson, flute soloist Göran Marcusson and mezzo-soprano Maria Sveinungsen Ejderos.
Tina Andersson is educated at the Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama and works as a composer, flutist and conductor.
