This piece is the second movement of three from a very large organ piece entitled Libera me. The title Free me from freedom! All this freedom! is taken from Tobias Berggren's text for Sandström's great Requiem, a work he composed at the same time as this organ work. The slow middle movement can also be seen as an independent work. The progression of form is simple: a slow, almost unbearable ascending ring, which constantly oscillates between major and minor keys and which only reaches its goal in the ecstatic C minor chord of the final measure. The 10-part movement is incredibly complex in its internal structure. Free me... , can be described as a typical Sandström work. He has often worked with similar structures, above all in his frequently performed choral works. The work was first performed in Zurich (Grossmünster) on Christmas Day 1981. Libera me is dedicated to Hans-Ola Ericsson. Text: Hans-Ola Ericsson. From Phono Suecia No. 31 (1987)
