Text: from The Gospel of Thomas. Coptic and English lyrics.

NIGUN gives the character of a Jewish service and contains textual fragments from these. Space is also given here for the wordless melody, which has high spiritual value in Jewish mysticism.

Jacob Mühlrad is referred to in the media as a "shooting star" among young composers. He was the youngest composer ever to have a work performed at the Royal Opera House, and he has since received several exciting commissions of different nature. Nigun was premiered by the Radio Choir and the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Choir in 2014.

- My starting point has been to create an abstraction of a Jewish service in this work. The word nigun means melody and in Kabbalah, part of Jewish mysticism, you often talk about the wordless melody and how it communicates more than the melody with text.
