Be not afraid was commissioned and premiered by St. Göran's Chamber Choir for a concert project with the theme "Var inte rädd, Maria" For the same concert, Mathias also wrote music for the popular text Var inte rädd por mörmkeret, by Erik Blomberg, see GE 12931.
Mathias is a well-known jazz pianist, but also composes music for choir, in a style that combines jazz sounds with classical choral music.
