This is what the jury says about the winning entry of the Allmänna Sången & Anders Wall Composition Award 2016:

"The winning contribution consists of three different parts of a distinct character which together create an interesting and exciting whole. The piece is based on three fantastic text choices that have been given a musical twist of the utmost class and professionalism. In all their simplicity, the three very different parts create a dramatic, comic and tension-filled atmosphere in the interaction between the parts, the choir and the audience."

Speeches consist of three parts; The Rights of Woman, Surrender Speech and The Best Friend. In the first part, the text consists of parts from the "Declaration of the Rights of Woman" that Olympe de Gouges wrote in 1791. de Gouges' involvement in women's rights led to her death, she was executed by guillotine in 1793. In the second part, the text is based on a speech of the North American Indian tribe Nez Perce Chief Joseph. The speech is from when Chief Joseph surrendered to General Nelson in the Montana Territory on October 5, 1877. The text of the third paragraph is based on George Graham Vest's speech “A man's best friend”. The speech was the closing argument in a trial in Warrensburg, Missouri on September 23, 1870. George Graham Vest represented a man who sued another for killing his dog.
