Brinnande ljus (Burning light)
Now the night cries aloud in need, full of unknown anguish. Now I light two straight candles here for the sake of eternal darkness. If the Lord's angels pass by here, the light will call them, so they will hear how the flames sing my prayer, and carry it home with them. They are warriors, who walk in fiery armor with tidings from the Mighty One's house. Their speech has no words for harsh and sweet, but well for burning light. That is why they stand on the storm's back amidst the roar of lashing wings, that is why they smile at the power of darkness and meet the cold with scorn. O Lord my God, terrible God, I hear the rustle of your mantle. I pray for flowers and pray for peace— but give me burning light! /Karin Boye, from Gömda land
