There is no husband! "Sweden's first tone poet." At the turn of the last century, Emil Sjögren was widely regarded as the country's foremost composer.
His works range from solo and choral songs and works for organ and piano, to chamber music, above all the five violin sonatas, of which the most famous, the E minor sonata, earned him the nickname Emoll Sjögren. However, orchestral works are almost completely missing.
In recent years, Sjögren's music has met with growing interest, not least through a stream of recordings.
The French-oriented music researcher Anders Edling's book sheds new light on Sjögren's work and life - passionately through women, tragically through chronic illness.
The book about Emil Sjögren is part of the series of portraits of Swedish composers published by the Royal Academy of Music and Bokförlaget Atlantis.
