Is the dawn already here forms the end of a longer work with the same title, based on the 12th-century Provençal choral lyric, which Lars Johan Werle composed in 1980 for a smaller ensemble at the Stora Teatern in Gothenburg. The original is written for six vocal soloists and chamber ensemble. In Gunnar Eriksson's arrangement for choir a cappella, the instrumental parts have also been brought into the choir sound.
