The melody is, slightly processed, an old Norwegian tune from Brandval in the area around Grue Finnskog and has an original folk text about a good queen Dagmar. It was like a spontaneous encore after a joint concert that Sinikka Langeland, a resident of Grue Finnskog, sang it for me for the first time. My very first thought was that I just have to arrange the vocals for the choir. With the Latin stanzas of the Marian prayer, the contrasting middle part has taken on an almost Gregorian character of chant and response. - Anders Jormin
