The flight chose us is a suggestive «wandering choral work» for mixed choir with solo or small solo group in each movement. Stig Dagerman's poem, which was first published in Dagsedlar in 1953, touches on a constantly current theme and is presented musically by using the position and movements of the choir in relation to the natural acoustics of the room.
The piece was commissioned for the Nääs Choir Festival 2017 and premiered in its three-choir version by Härlanda Voices, Kören Saltstänk, Hemsjökören & Skallsjö Vocal Ensemble under the direction of conductor Gunno Palmquist.
For the choir that wishes to perform the work with a simple choreography: At first, the choir singers are placed in different places in the room, for example on the stage and on the sides of the audience. In this way, the audience sits or stands at the center of the music. After a while, the singers start a collective walk, where the ultimate goal is to form a large circle around the audience. The piece fades into a long final chord during which one of the soloists continues his journey out of the concert hall while the other singers remain standing.
The piece is also available in its original version for three mixed choirs.
