The Finnish-Swedish poet Edith Södergran with her expressionistic poetic expression has attracted many composers. For her suite Songs from the Mountain, Josefine Lindstrand has selected four poems from the 1916 collection Dikter and from the Rose Altar (1919). They are poems of varying character, but all with the Nordic nature as background.

The four movements are called Early Dawn, Wandering Clouds, The Storm and Song on the Mountain.

Josefine Lindstrand writes: "Edith Södergran's poems have always fascinated me. I get a feeling of both curious playfulness and at the same time dark melancholy and depth. I selected four poems that I think are connected in some way and chose to make it into a choral suite for mixed choir. The poems and music describe four different emotional states or moods in nature and within us. The piece can be performed together with an improvisational musician.”

Josefine Lindstrand is a singer, pianist and composer. In 2009, she was awarded the National Concerts' Jazz in Sweden award.

The suite was first performed by Erik Westberg's Vocal Ensemble in 2017. In conjunction with the choir's 25th anniversary in 2018, an album of two hours of vocal music was uploaded to the "cloud", together with the publication of a book with web comments, lyrics and translations. The suite Songs from the Mountain is included here, and is thus available to listen to on various streaming services (Spotify, iTunes, Tidal, Amazon, etc.).
