Come Unto Me was commissioned for Mark Pope and the choir of University Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the church. The church has a relief sculpture by artist Jose Martin above the main entrance doors with the scripture "Come unto me". This piece was the composer's first commission in the US.
