"The three songs in this edition were created during the long autumn of 2020 and are each based on a page from Göran Sonnevi's book without a name . This monumental collection of poems is occupied by long and wordy poems, but here and there a kind of clearing opens up, where both tone and content take on a more lyrical character. The short texts that take place in these openings have always been close to my heart, and I have previously worked on setting such sections from other poetry collections to music, albeit in a smaller format.
During my reading of Book Without Name, however, I thought I heard polyphonic vocal music rather than chants. On the one hand, I associated the spiritual themes of the poems with my own experiences of choir singing, on the other hand I felt that the great vulnerability and humanity of the lyrics should be able to be most strongly expressed in the incredible closeness that arises when many people sing together. I myself am basically a bassoonist and orchestral musician, but over the years I have had many strong experiences of choral music as an audience member, especially in church rooms. An important source of inspiration has been the songs of the Taizé movement, with their combination of repetitive simplicity and polyphonic pretension.
The songs are to be regarded as three relatively independent pieces, but can be advantageously performed as a three-movement suite in their printed order." - Elle Boman
