Alice Tegnér (1864-1943) is primarily known as a composer of nursery rhymes. Many of our most famous and best children's songs have been written by her.
In this book, the picture of Alice Tegnér becomes significantly more complex. She had the ambition – but was partly hindered by the prejudices of her time – to develop into a broader art music composer. Alongside the children's songs, it became mostly practical music, written for special occasions and for teaching: songs, choral music and piano pieces. A larger work, a violin sonata, constitutes almost a 20-minute exception in the production; otherwise, most of it is small pieces – but of the highest quality!
Alice Tegnér The society's chairman, Gudrun Tegnér, has commissioned several dedicated writers to write about different aspects of Alice Tegnér's activities. The editor himself writes about Alice's life, based on, among other things, previously unknown letters. Others deal with Alice's relationship to folk music, art music, children's music, etc
Some texts by Alice Tegnér herself are published here for the first time.

In addition to these texts, the book contains no less than 72 pieces of music by Alice Tegnér – solo songs, choral songs, piano pieces and music for cello and piano. This music has not previously been published or has only existed in long-outdated collections. The selection has been made from a large collection of Alice Tegnér's manuscripts. Here is a rich source for singers and musicians to draw from, everything from simple ballads to well-composed romances and from small character pieces for piano students to pieces in the spirit of Chopin.

As a supplement to the book's texts and notes, there is an attached CD with newly recorded material. Soprano Karolina Andersson and baritone Olle Persson are responsible for the solo efforts; the choral songs are performed by the Rilke Ensemble under the direction of Gunno Palmquist, and the piano soloist and accompanist is Magnus Ricklund.
