Organist and organ professor Hans Fagius' book on all of Johann Sebastian Bach's organ works was first published in 2010. It is a handbook aimed at both performers and listeners. The book, which received an enthusiastic reception and rave reviews, has been out of print for some time but is now being reissued.

Before the new edition, Hans Fagius has gone through the entire book again. In the new foreword, he writes: "Since this book was published at the end of 2010, a lot has happened in Bach research. The book previously contained some factual errors which have now been corrected. Some linguistic details have been polished. And there have been numerous references to new important books. Two new sheet music editions of all of Bach's organ works have also been initiated in recent years. Various details from these new books and editions have formed the basis of this revision.”

In the first part of the book, a brief biography of Bach's life is given; there is no more modern such in Swedish. Here, Fagius also talks about Bach's work as an organist, about the function of organ music and about the organs that Bach played on. The reader also gains insights into Bach's interest in musical rhetoric and speech symbolism.

The main part of the book consists of work descriptions of all organ works. Each genre and each collection begins with a short story about background and content. The works are often described in detail and with evaluative points of view. In each work description, Hans Fagius also gives suggestions for how the pieces can be registered and also some ideas about interpretation. A large number of illustrative musical examples clarify the reasoning.

The author Hans Fagius is well known to all organ lovers. Hans was born in 1951 in Norrköping and for many years has been one of Sweden's foremost and most active concert organists. After studying with Bengt Berg, Alf Linder and Maurice Duruflé, he has extensively toured as an organist in most parts of the world with a repertoire that spans all eras, but mainly with baroque and romantic music. As a gramophone artist, Hans Fagius, primarily on the Swedish label BIS, has recorded music by Liszt, Saint-Saëns, Widor, Karg-Elert, Duruflé and Mendelssohn, as well as a complete version of Bach's organ works.

After having been a teacher at the conservatories of music in Gothenburg and Stockholm for several years, Hans has since 1989 been a professor at Det kgl. Danish Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He is a sought-after teacher at various master classes, and is a regular jury member at international organ competitions all over the world. Since 1998, he has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music

As an appendix to the book, a CD is included, recorded by Hans Fagius on the organ in Eslöv's church in June 2010. In addition to some representative works from different periods and in different styles, there are also two pieces not previously presented on the complete recording provided by Fagius out on Bis Records: Fantasy in C minor BWV 1121 and Choral Fantasy over Wo Gott der Herr nicht bei uns hält BWV 1128
