The edition compiles all known chorale arrangements for organ by Johann Michael Bach, father of Johann Sebastian's first wife Maria Barbara. Herein Johann Michael proves to be a thoroughly self-reliant composer, whose influence must have been felt by the young Johann Sebastian Bach.
