The pieces are meant as a kind of organ proper of Mass. Chorales and chants from the Catholic hymnbook are used for the music of the movements 'Hallelujah', 'Offertorium' and 'Communio'. According to the spiritual content of the texts, there are both meditative and lively, virtuoso sections. The fourth movement, a toccata on the 'Ite missa est', ends the work with lavish organ sounds. The world premiere of the piece took place at the Cathedral of Salzburg in 1994 in the rare and demanding instrumentation for two organs.
