I Lucias ljus (In Lucia’s Light) Instrumental part is a work for women’s choir, violin, double bass, and accompanying instrument. The piece tells the story of the brave woman from Syracuse who devoted her life to helping the poor and vulnerable. Lucia became a martyr and a saint, a patron of the visually impaired, glassworkers, opticians, nurses, tailors, firefighters, and others.
The work also reflects the Lucia celebration in Swedish tradition and our distinct Nordic relationship with light and darkness. The music moves between lively folk music in polska rhythm, similar to many traditional Swedish Christmas games, and poetic, delicately expressive songs.
