Comments to Hallelujah! Praise the Lord The verses in this psalter hymn are sung by the choir and can be varied in several ways. They can be sung in unison, by a 3-part female choir or a 2-part male choir (which then sings the three upper parts) or a 5-part mixed choir. Since the melody is in the tenor part, you can also consider excluding the bass part and letting the ladies' parts accompany the tenor part. You can also sing alternately men/women or solo/tutti. The organ part is used ad libitum. The congregation can advantageously join in the chorus, which in that case should be accompanied by the organ. If the verses are sung a cappella, the organ can enter at the "Hallelujah" that ends each verse. The chorus can be sung by a four-part mixed choir or a three-part women's choir. The treble part in the chorus is used sparingly, perhaps only until the last chorus. You can also perform this psalter hymn as a choral piece, preferably a cappella. The chorus should be sung calmly with a flowing F while the verses are sung more freely and in f. Keep in mind that the text has a laudatory character, which should be felt during the performance. Great freedom prevails and each performance is determined by the conditions prevailing at the time.
