The German composer Max Reger (1873-1916) composed, among other things, a series of songs for solo voice and piano or organ which he called Schlichte Weisen (simple songs) and which were published in 1912. One of the songs, No. 52, is a very fine-tuned lullaby which depicts the Virgin Mary with the newborn baby Jesus resting in her arms. The song is called in its German-language original Mariae Wiegenlied, with lyrics by Martin Boelitz. The present arrangement for SAB choir, flute and piano, entitled Maria's lullaby, is translated by Evelyn Lindström. It is my hope that this edition will provide a welcome addition of easily accessible music for the SAB Choir. Mats Åkerlund
