12 Passion Chorals is a collection of newly written texts by the author Ylva Eggehorn. They can be used independently, in different forms of church services or as it was originally intended, in Johann Sebastian Bach's chorales in the Matthew Passion, sung by the congregation.

The chorales were added on behalf of St John's parish, Malmö presbytery, Linköping's cathedral parish and Sweden's Church Singing Association in connection with the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

The chorales are reproduced in pure text, unison sheet music and four-part choral movement in Bach's harmonization. In addition, there are three suggested arrangements for different devotions during Lent where selected corals can be used.

Ylva Eggehorn's texts are written as comments to the sung Gospel in the Matthew Passion, but take their origin in the suffering around us. Here, death applies for real, so that life can also be real.

When I see the iconographic subtext in the pictures from Aleppo, from the overcrowded refugee boats, from the recently shot young man at the bus stop in Malmö, from the child who was rejected from the hospital and died... then it all comes from my innermost being.” - Ylva Eggehorn
