Work for large orchestra with inspiration drawn from the contrasting environments of the suburbs.
Commissioned works from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sweden's Radio Symphony Orchestra.

I have to admit that I have a kind of love-hate for the suburb but there's no getting away from the fact that it's a fascinating environment in many ways. There are often sharp contrasts where the rural meets the urban, nature meets the concrete, the beautiful versus the ugly, an environment where stillness meets the pulse of the city. Past meets present. A melting pot of people from all over the world. And this is where I live.

Mahler is said to have said that he wanted his symphonies to contain the whole world.
I'm content with the suburbs. (Albert Schneller)
