Tobias Broström loves the symphonic tradition, so when he received an order from the Gothenburg Symphony for a larger work of 40 minutes, he took the chance to write a symphony in three movements with the subtitle Albedo.
The symphony is the second work in a trilogy that draws inspiration from concepts found both in the world of alchemy and in Jungian psychology. The first work was the double trumpet concerto Nigredo – Dark Night of the Soul which stands for blackness, while Albedo stands for the white, pure phase which should bring light and clarity. A third work Rubedo is in progress.
