Matthew Peterson was awarded the 2024 Christ Johnson Prize for Högalidsmässan (The Högalid Mass). The motivation was: "A large sacred work that, both in its accessibility and scope, sends an inspiring message to many of the country's church choirs. With a rhythmically varied and brilliant musical language, Matthew Peterson breathes new life into the deeply touching message of the Mass."
Högalidsmässan was commissioned by the Högalid parish in Stockholm for the 100th anniversary of the Högalid Church and premiered in June 2023 by the Högalid Chamber Choir, Högalid Chamber Orchestra, Nils Larsson, organ and Benedikt Melichar, conductor.
The organ reduction is intended both for rehearsal of the full version, as well as for performance of the reduced SATB & organ version.
