Nelson & Mühlrad – two premieres in Örebro
Thursday, October 10, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra offers two premieres in the same evening, Daniel Nelson's song cycle I Am Monster and the first part of Jacob Mühlrad's RESIL .
Daniel Nelson's I Am Monster is based on the Jewish myth of Lilith.
With the help of an AI text generator, Nelson has had Lilith viewed from the perspective of three other "monsters": C. S Lewis' Alice, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein's monster and Shakespeare's Shylock. There is also a setting to music of a poem by John Clare. The song cycle is commissioned by Sweden's Radio P2 for the soprano Johanna Wallroth.
Jacob Mühlrad's RESIL I is the first part of a larger work commissioned by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and is a reflection on how life on earth has arisen and adapted through chaos and harmony. Jacob explains that the work contains frequencies beyond human hearing, from the high-frequency notes of dog whistles to the low infrasound of the gran casa drum, and reflects the complex, interconnected systems that shape our planet – unpredictable, resilient and constantly in motion.
Daniel Raiskin conducts the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in Örebro Concert Hall and the soloist is Johanna Wallroth. The concert is recorded by Swedish Radio P2.
