Broström's Garden of Earthly Delights
On Friday, April 12, Tobias Broström's new orchestral work The Garden of Earthly Delights will have its world premiere at the Gävle Concert Hall. The piece was commissioned by and composed for the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and is part of a collaborative project focusing on public art in general, and on Gävle's public art in particular.
The Garden of Earthly Delights is divided into three movements. The number three also applies to the large paintings by artist Björn Warwas, which have served as inspiration for the music and will be displayed in the concert hall's foyer. Björn Warwas's triptych, in turn, draws inspiration both in format and content from the Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch. Tobias Broström has borrowed the title for his work from Bosch's imaginative triptych of the same name, The Garden of Earthly Delights. The painting is believed to symbolize life in Paradise, on Earth, and in Hell.
The Gävle Symphony Orchestra will premiere The Garden of Earthly Delights under the direction of chief conductor Christian Reif, and will then take the work on tour to Åland.
