Anniversary work by Rehnqvist premiered in Helsinki

On April 26th, Karin Rehnqvist's "Take the Milky Way" for choir and baroque orchestra will have its world premiere at the Helsinki Music Centre. The work was composed for and commissioned by the Helsinki Chamber Choir for their 20th anniversary. The text by Kerstin Perski was specially written for this work.

The first movement paints a a dark picture of our times. Where is hope? What can we do?
The second movement is a protest song, a battle cry.
This is followed by an interlude for organ – The Black Hole Interlude
The third movement Reach out your hand calls to everyone. Pull up the fallen from the black hole. Free the light. Do the impossible.
"And in the fourth movement, we continue our voyage through the unknown. Cautiously. Tentatively. Together," writes Karin Rehnqvist.

The Helsinki Chamber Choir performs the work together with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and conductor Nils Schweckendiek.
