Lindström's Rösaring – to be inspired by a place
On May 9, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra will premiere Emmy Lindström's Rösaring , a concert for orchestra inspired by a Viking-era archaeological site outside Stockholm. The concert will be broadcast live at Berwaldhallen Play and will also include Carl Orff's Carmina Burana with the Radio Choir and soloists.
– It is an incredibly cool place, definitely on par with the most famous sites in Sweden, says Emmy Lindström. There is a stone labyrinth, burial mounds, a house foundation and a processional path that leads up to a wonderful view. If you are there at the midwinter solstice and the weather is clear, the path runs exactly in line with the Milky Way. I was so inspired by this place, and one day a story came to me; about a highly respected shaman woman who had just died and the girl who is destined to take over the role. I set the story to music. It is actually about something deeply human; about life and death, and hope in the midst of grief.
