The Radio Choir celebrates 100 years with an anniversary concert

For a century, the Radio Choir has collaborated with Swedish composers on world-class, beautiful and innovative choral music. On Saturday, October 4, the choir celebrates with music by, among others, Matthew Peterson, Ingvar Lidholm and Sven-David Sandström.

Matthew Peterson is one of six composers who have been commissioned to compose a movement each in a jubilee mass for the Radio Choir and its chief conductor Kaspars Putniņš. Peterson is also currently composing his Symphony No. 2, The Wanderers, which will be premiered by the Radio Choir and Dalasinfoniettan on March 21, 2026 in Berwaldhallen and March 22 in Falun.

The program includes Ingvar Lidholm's masterpiece De profundis from 1983, with "the ability to take the listener's breath away" (berwaldhallen.se), Lars-Johan Werle's lovingly suggestive trees to poems by ee cummings, Sven-David Sandström's perhaps most beloved a cappella work Four Songs of Love , Lars Edlund's powerful Gloria (where the famous opening solo is sung by the tenor and composer Carl Unander-Scharin ) and the choral classics Pingst ( Oskar Lindberg ) and I Seraillets have ( Wilhelm Stenhammar ).

A large part of the concert's repertoire can be found at Gehrmans, both originally published by Gehrmans Musikförlag and from Nordiska Musikförlaget, whose catalog has been included in Gehrmans since 2007. See the full program below, including links to editions where you can browse the sheet music.

ABOUT THE CONCERT:

"When the Radio Choir was formed in 1925, the ambition was to maintain a "high ideal, cultural and artistic level", to give the audience beautiful and relevant interpretations of older music, and to lead the way for new, forward-looking music. The Radio Choir's collaboration with prominent composers has greatly enriched the choral repertoire with challenging repertoire that places high demands on the performers and broadens the concepts of what choral singing and vocal expression can mean.

The proud tradition of newly written music continues today, and for the 100th anniversary celebration, the Radio Choir has commissioned a mass by six of today's most interesting composers. After the break, there will be modern classics and romantic gems from the Radio Choir's rich repertoire - and a few surprises!
