Biography

With her expressive and personally colored tone, Anna-Karin Klockar has become known in international choral life since she won the Allmänna Sången & Anders Wall Composition Award 2016 with Speeches, three set speeches for mixed choir. Her many years in the Italian television and film music industry have provided a dramatic awareness that complements Klockar's deep roots in the Swedish musical tradition.

Anna-Karin Klockar graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm in 1985, after studying with Lars-Erik Rosell, Daniel Börtz, Arne Mellnäs, Bengt-Arne Wallin and Per-Gunnar Alldahl.
After completing her studies, Anna-Karin moved to Rome, where she worked for 25 years with classical, folk and commercial music. She has studied piano, organ and cello and has conducted choirs in both Italy and Sweden. Much of Klockar's work in Italy was in the film and television industry where she collaborated with Luis
Bacalov, Riz Ortolani, Bruno Zambrini, Pino Donaggio and Maurizio Abeni.

Anna-Karin now lives in Falun. In 2014, she won the Church of Sweden's composition competition with Missa Dalecarliensis. She has also won the Polyphonos competition (Seattle) in 2017.

In 2016, hers wonSpeechesAllmänna Sången & Anders Wall Composition Award with the following justification:"The winning contribution consists of three different parts of a distinct character which together create an interesting and exciting whole. The piece is based on three fantastic text choices that have been given a musical twist of the utmost class and professionalism. In all their simplicity, the three very different parts create a dramatic, comic and tension-filled atmosphere in the interaction between the parts, the choir and the audience."Speeches can be found on the album Femina Moderna with Allmänna Sången and Maria Goundorina.

Limu limu limawas commissioned for Sveriges Radio's Alfvén anniversary in 2022 and has since been performed countless times by the Radiokören on tours and concerts.

Anna-Karin Klockar was one of the Choral Composers of the Month 2019 in the series #svenskkörmusik, with an interview where she talks about, among other things, the thoughts behindSpeeches.
