Musicalo – songs for children with big feelings (and their educators)

On May 12, Musicalo was launched at Örebro University – a unique, research-based material that uses music to strengthen children's social development and prevent problems in their interactions with others. Anna-Karin Andershed, Professor of Psychology, and Fredrik Berglund, composer and music educator, are behind the initiative.

What happens when children sing about feelings, conflicts, and friends – and talk about them at the same time? In Musicalo, the magic of music and the power of psychology meet in a research-based material that promotes children's development of positive social strategies. Through specially written songs, movements, and conversations, children can practice understanding themselves and others, handling difficult situations, and building lasting relationships.

– Research shows that it is possible to strengthen abilities that reduce the risk of problems later on, even at an early age, says Anna-Karin Andershed, Professor of Psychology at Örebro University.

Musicalo is aimed at educators and children in preschool and early school years. With the help of songs, movements, and conversations, children can practice empathy, impulse control, and collaboration – while educators receive concrete support in their daily work.

The material – handbook, songbook, and song cards for children – is published by Gehrmans Musikförlag. All sixteen songs can be heard in a dedicated playlist.
